Instructor Master Matt Hamann serves as an Assistant Professor in the Iowa State University (ISU) Department of Kinesiology and as the primary instructor for the ISU CYMA club. Currently, Master Hamann holds a 6th degree in Taekwondo, a 4th degree in Hapkido, and a 3rd degree in Judo - arts for which he holds weekly club practices and classes available to ISU students.
Over 7,000 students have received training under Master Hamann with 93 having been promoted to black belts and an additional 18 reaching the Master Rank under his supervision. He has led students to reach additional heights, serving as a referee for local, regional, national and international tournaments and as the coach of the ISU Collegiate Taekwondo team (2011 to present), the ISU Collegiate Judo team (2014 to present), and the ISU Martial Arts Demo Team (2010-2018).
Master Hamann believes in the value and encourages his students to seek opportunities to cross train and diversify their martial arts knowledge to gain a better fundamental understanding of martial arts. In addition to the arts he currently teaches, Master Hamann holds black belts in Kumoryu Jujutsu, Karate, and Kuhapdo/Iaido and has trained in Kendo, Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, Battodo, and Aikido. He has also trained at Hoseo University in South Korea where he practiced Taekwondo, Judo, Hapkido, Kendo, and provided security services.
“I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED TEACHING AND WATCHING STUDENTS LEARN. SEEING MY STUDENTS GROW AND LEARN IS THE BEST FEELING AND ACHIEVEMENT I COULD EVER HAVE IN THE MARTIAL ARTS.
HAVING STRONG, CONFIDENT, AND HARD WORKING STUDENTS IS ALL AN INSTRUCTOR CAN ASK FOR.
I’M VERY PROUD OF MY STUDENTS.”
- Master Matt Hamann
